<dc:description>This study examines the dynamic interplay of socioeconomic and academic factors shaping the wellbeing of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) students. Utilising a descriptive research methodology through a survey design, data were collected from 250 second-semester B.Ed. students across six teacher education colleges in Jammu Division using simple random sampling. The study&apos;s objectives were to examine the levels of well-being across various dimensions, investigate the relationship between socioeconomic status and well-being, analyse differences in well-being among students from different family structures, and assess the impact of the academic stream on well-being. Well-being was assessed through the Well-Being Scale (WBS-RK, Kaur, 2014) which explores multiple dimensions. Statistical tools such as t-tests were employed to analyse the data. Findings reveal that economic status significantly influences spiritual well-being with higher-income students exhibiting better outcomes. Family structure also impacts spiritual well-being where students from joint families scored higher. Furthermore, the academic stream significantly affects emotional and overall well-being with Science students demonstrating superior levels to Arts students. These results highlight the multifaceted influences on student well-being and underscore the necessity for educational policies and support systems responsive to these diverse factors. The study contributes to our understanding of the intricate dynamics shaping future educators&apos; well-being, offering implications for enhancing teacher training programmes and fostering holistic development in educational settings.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Impact of Electronic Media on Socio-Emotional Development of Preschool Children: Parents’ Perceptions</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Seneviratne, Peellage</dc:creator>
<dc:description>This study investigated the parental perceptions of the effects of electronic media on the socioemotional development of preschool children in the Kalutara District, Sri Lanka. It explores the positive and negative impacts of electronic media exposure, considering factors such as accessibility, type of programme/activity and duration of use. 377 parents were randomly selected from preschool children attending preschools in the Kalutara District. The sample was stratified to include urban and rural settings to ensure representation across different socio-economic backgrounds. A survey method was chosen, and data were collected from a piloted and validated structured questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale, which included information on types of electronic media accessed by children, duration of use and programme preference. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution and graphic presentations were used to summarize media usage patterns and socio-emotional development indicators. The impact of electronic media on socio-emotional development indicated both positive and negative relationships. The study found that while most parents hold a positive attitude toward electronic media, a majority were aware that electronic media lead to aggressive behaviour, prevent children from forming healthy relationships with adults and peers, promote unhealthy competition among children, become addicted to electronic media and negatively affects the socio-emotional development of children. Based on the findings, guidelines were developed to help parents model healthy media habits, while recommendations were made for policymakers to offer training and resources to support parents in managing screen time, selecting appropriate content and engaging in co-viewing.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Life of Pi as an Advanced Level Text: Teachers&apos; Perceptions on Overcoming Challenges of Teaching Magic Realism</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Jayakody, Mayanthi Kulatunga</dc:creator>
<dc:description>Magic Realism has been spreading globally over the last three decades, attracting many authors and a wide audience. Despite a mixed response from certain students and readers, a large number of such texts are used as course material, including the current G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) English syllabus in Sri Lanka. However, the Sri Lankan English Literature curriculum has received little attention from a pedagogical perspective in contrast to the English Language curriculum. This issue is related to the larger problem of literature pedagogy being underdeveloped worldwide. Therefore, this study explored the innovative teaching methods used by teachers against the challenges faced when teaching Magic Realism (in this case, Life of Pi) to A/L students. A narrative inquiry was conducted following a qualitative research approach, utilizing a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews as research tools. The data were thematically analyzed using the six-phase framework proposed by Virginia Braun and Victoria Clarke (2012). Accordingly, five distinct themes were identified: ‘The selection of Life of Pi as a conscious effort’, ‘Teaching Life of Pi as an Advanced Level text’, ‘Challenges faced while teaching Life of Pi’, ‘Overcoming challenges’, and ‘Opinions on the inclusion of Magic Realism and Life of Pi in the A/L syllabi’. Results indicated a lack of clear guidelines on teaching and agreed-upon interpretations. To overcome the challenges, various innovative strategies such as concept maps, thematic approaches, role play, debates, discussions on WhatsApp groups, and extracting examples from mythology, fables and Biblical stories had been utilized by teachers. Findings imply that teachers require adequate guidance and training when teaching a new genre. A broader study representing teachers from different districts would provide further insights.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Developing Creativity and Adaptability Skills in Junior Secondary School Students in Sri Lanka</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Irugalbandara, Ayomi Indika</dc:creator>
<dc:description>Creative arts subjects such as Drama and Theatre provide a productive context for developing 21st-century skills. However, in Sri Lanka, the teaching of aesthetic subjects is still based on a traditional lecture- and exam-oriented approach aimed at providing notes. This exploratory article presents the evaluation results of a drama-based intervention programme specifically designed to develop creative thinking and adaptive skills in junior secondary school students in the Sri Lankan context. The study involved 128 Grade 7 students aged 11–12 and 6 Drama and Theatre teachers. The study was conducted as a non-randomized control trial with an intervention group, a control group and an active control group, addressing the main research question: Does including process drama techniques in the teaching-learning programme in drama improve creative thinking and adaptability skills of junior secondary school students? The programme was implemented by Drama teachers trained in the process drama teaching approach for two hours per week for twelve consecutive weeks. The Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (TTCT) and Martin&apos;s Adaptability Scale were used to assess the intervention through pre and post tests of the students. Classroom observations, teacher interviews and student discussions were conducted to ensure the fidelity, feasibility and acceptability of the intervention. The results showed that when an appropriate environment and opportunities for active engagement are provided, students engage energetically in creative experiences, processes and developments, and their creative thinking and adaptive skills improve significantly. This article suggests new dimensions in Sri Lankan drama teaching and learning.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Changes in Stakeholders’ Attitudes towards Inclusive Education Practices</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Ketheeswaran, Kanapathippillai</dc:creator>
<dc:description>This study aims to investigate the extent to which the attitudes of stakeholders are changed about the regular classroom practices that have been transformed as Inclusive Education (IE) practices in the school system. The research design was a case study, and the research approach was qualitative. Five government schools in the Batticaloa district that practice IE were selected using a convenience sampling method. Five Assistant Directors of Special Education, five principals, five class teachers, and ten subject teachers were selected as participants, purposively. The interview schedules were administrated to gather data from Assistant Directors of Special Education, principals, and class teachers. The focus group discussion schedule was utilized to collect data from subject teachers of inclusive classrooms. The observation schedule was utilized to collect data from selected schools. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data by coding and categorizing. Stakeholders have positive attitudes and practices in both the key practices of information provisions for IE and student interactions in IE. On the other hand, negative attitudes were observed among the stakeholders regarding the development of individual education programmes for students with special educational needs, and a policy for IE. Also, there are mixed attitudes towards the practice of physical features for IE among stakeholders. As a recommendation, awareness should be created about the importance of IE policy and individual education program at school level and zonal level. Additionally, awareness should be created regarding the importance of physical features in IE and the responsibilities of stakeholders.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Latent Teacher: The Enfolded Potentials for Enhanced Teaching</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>John, Rages</dc:creator>
<dc:description>Teaching makes use of all excellent general qualities that are intrinsic and develop subliminally as people mature. The impact of education on the level and quality of one’s maturity determines the efficacy of one’s teaching too. This paper reviews and synthesises the evidence on latent teachers and awakened teachers: compares the empirical data for and against the natural teachers, enlists and emphasizes the generic skills, and confirms the weightage of latent potentials over the methods and approaches in education. Data sources include empirical studies and published literature available from websites. The review finds that teaching is a dynamic process just as human life is dynamic; and that the latent teacher within ought to be awakened to address the complex process of education. The findings suggest that educational reforms focusing on the techniques and methods of teaching without sharpening the latent teaching potentials bear little fruit.</dc:description>

<dc:title>The Role of Collaborative Learning and Problem-based Learning in Character Development: A Review</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Dissanayake, Malathie</dc:creator>
<dc:description>The purpose of higher education should focus on providing students opportunities to gain scientific knowledge of various disciplines and to improve skills, attitudes and right mindset that guide them to become successful professionals. Open and Distance Education provides flexible and open learning options for students to accomplish their educational goals. The use of diverse teaching-learning methods such as collaborative and problem-based learning may help students become 21st century learners who can apply their knowledge and skills to solve real world problems. The purpose of this review is to explore the role of collaborative and problem-based learning in Open and Distance Education in developing cognitive, social, emotional, decision making and problem-solving skills among learners. Particularly, it explores the benefits of both methods and how they help learners develop the kind of character necessary to succeed as professionals. A narrative review method was adopted in this study. The literature that examined how collaborative and problem-based learning affected the development of critical facets of learners’ behaviour, including cognitive, emotional, social, motivational skills and personality was chosen for the review. Thematic analysis was used to analyze data and to identify the key themes in the data related to the two approaches. It is evident that both approaches increase opportunities to develop learners’ cognitive, metacognitive, emotional, social and motivational skills necessary to succeed in their fields and maximize positive outcomes in social and professional settings. Accordingly, this will allow them to develop into mature professionals with well-rounded characters who can help communities grow.</dc:description>

This study employed an exploratory research design, which is a qualitative research approach. Focused on Tamil-medium schools in the Hatton Education Zone, the participants including principals, teachers, parents, and students were selected for the study using purposive sampling. It utilized participant observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group interviews as data collection methods, and content analysis was used for the data analysis. Key challenges identified include insufficient teachers and specialized training for teachers, poor infrastructure and lack of awareness of inclusive education among the society. Nevertheless, there are opportunities such as strong community support, a positive attitude of school society and the existing policy framework of the National Education Commission (NEC) and the Ministry of Education (MOE). The study introduced a proposed inclusive education framework designed specifically for the unique needs of schools in the plantation sector. This framework highlights the importance of improved teacher training, upgraded infrastructure and collaborative efforts among plantation management, educators, and the community to guarantee equal educational opportunities for all children in plantation sector schools.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Using Assistive Technology to Support Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Colombo District, Sri Lanka</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Athawuda, Nuwanda</dc:creator>
<dc:description>This study examined the use of Assistive Technologies (AT) by teachers to support children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Sri Lanka, with focus on the types of AT in use, teacher perceptions, implementation challenges, and strategies for effective integration. A mixed-methods approach was implemented, incorporating quantitative data from an online survey of 50 teachers and qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews with 5 teachers and 5 principals from government and private schools in the Western Province. Findings uncovered that various AT tools, including videos, pictures, and communication boards, are used to support learning, communication, and social interaction. However, usage differs significantly, with many teachers lacking familiarity and confidence in employing AT effectively. Challenges identified included insufficient training, limited resources, inadequate institutional support, and resistance from stakeholders, such as school authorities and parents, favouring traditional teaching methods. With these barriers, teachers admitted the potential benefits of AT in enhancing educational outcomes for children with ASD. To address these challenges, the study recommended targeted professional development programmes, awareness campaigns to foster stakeholder engagement, and the establishment of supportive policies with proper resource allocation. This research highlights the need for collaboration among educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to create a conducive environment for AT integration. Such efforts aim to enhance AT usage in the classroom, promote inclusive education, and improve learning outcomes for children with ASD in Sri Lanka.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Traditional methods of assessing student learning outcomes often fail to fully engage students or accurately measure their performance across various tasks. This study examined the impact of the Assessment for Learning Method (AFLM) on the academic performance of Economics students in Gombe State secondary schools. Guided by two research questions and corresponding hypotheses, a quasi-experimental design was employed. From a population of 30,430 students, a purposive and cluster sampling technique selected 68 Senior Secondary 2 (SS2) Economics students from two intact classes. Data was collected using a researcher-developed 40-item Economics Achievement Test (EAT), which demonstrated an internal consistency reliability coefficient of 0.81, as established by Kuder-Richardson Formula 20 (KR-20). Hypotheses were tested at a 0.05 significance level using One-Way and Two-Way Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Findings revealed that the AFLM group showed a significant improvement in post-test scores compared to the Traditional Assessment Methods (TAM) group. Consequently, it is recommended that educational ministries and departments regularly organize and sponsor conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and workshops to train Economics teachers in implementing performance-based and self-assessment methods as integral components of the academic learning process.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Technology Integration Models and Instructional Design Frameworks to Facilitate the Development of Teacher Training Programmes</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Yumna, A. S. P.</dc:creator>
<dc:description>In the digital age, equipping teachers with the skills and knowledge to integrate technology into their teaching is essential for improving student learning outcomes. This study conducts a systematic review of three technology integration models: 5WH1, TPACK, and WSTP and two instructional design frameworks: ADDIE and 4C-ID to explore their relevance in developing effective teacher training programmes. A total of 26 research articles published between 2000-2024 were reviewed, focusing on key themes namely major components and theoretical foundations, insights provided to design teacher training programmes and strengths and limitations of the models. The findings emphasize the need for an integrated approach that combines technology integration models with instructional design frameworks to enhance professional development programmes. This integrated approach ensures that teacher training is both systematic and adaptable, addressing the challenges of technology adoption while promoting effective instructional practices. By leveraging these models, training programmes can be designed to better equip teachers with the necessary competencies for meaningful technology integration in education.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Applying Universal Design Principles for Teaching and Learning Process in the Inclusive Classroom</dc:title>
<dc:creator>Tharangika, Nanayakkara Wasam Egodage Ruchini Iresha</dc:creator>
<dc:description>The integration of universal design learning principles and methodologies into pedagogical practices has gained significant attention in recent years. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a framework that emphasizes creating accessible and inclusive educational experiences to accommodate all students, including diverse learners. This study explores the implementation of UDL principles in teaching mathematics in inclusive classrooms in Sri Lanka. The aim of this study was to identify how a teacher uses lesson plans according to UDL and to identify the challenges when applying UDL frameworks to make lesson plans. The phenomenological research design, belonging to the qualitative approach was used as the research methodology. The sample was selected under non-random sampling. Observations and interviews were used to collect data. Data analysis was conducted using narrative analysis and thematic analysis. The study highlights that the teacher did her best to represent three core principles of UDL: (1) providing multiple means of representation, (2) providing multiple means of action and expression, and (3) providing multiple means of engagement. Furthermore, the research identifies challenges in adopting UDL practices, including resource constraints, lack of awareness among educators, and limited professional development opportunities. Addressing these barriers is critical to successfully integrating UDL principles into mainstream education systems.</dc:description>

The specific objectives were to examine the factors affecting the implementation of GIT as an innovation at school level, to understand the views of students and teachers on implementing GIT, and to explore the strengths and weaknesses of implementing GIT as an innovation. The study is exploratory, constructivist, and qualitative in nature. The multiple-case study design was used to have an in-depth study. A purposive sample of two urban schools was selected within the Kandy Educational Zone, where there are Computer Learning Centres (CLCs) that currently teach GIT. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis. The theoretical framework was informed by Fullan’s Interactive Factors Affecting Implementation Model. The following themes emerged in the analysis: lack of sufficient awareness of aims and objectives of implementing GIT by teachers and students, poor physical resources and infrastructure in the CLC, less enthusiasm among students due to rules and regulations in the CLC, poor teacher professional development programmes, weak administration in the school, poor monitoring systems of the Ministry of Education, Provincial Department of Education, Zonal Education Office, and the school, and lack of adequate support from the family for the students to learn GIT. Due to the above reasons, both teachers and students were less enthusiastic about the implementation of GIT. Measures such as providing required physical resources and maintenance from the Ministry of Education, revising the syllabus to fulfil students’ needs that align with the National Vocational Qualification Framework (NVQF) guidelines, and establishing a proper monitoring system are recommended.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Mobile Learning in School Education: A Study based on Eastern Province, Sri Lanka</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Francke, Judith Harriet</dc:creator>
<dc:description>This study aims to identify the factors affecting the intention to adapt mobile learning and the relationship between identified factors and mobile learning (m-learning) among school students in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. With the consideration of constructs such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, perceived playfulness, social influence, and perceived usefulness, the survey was done among 150 Advanced Level school students in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. The model of the study was evaluated using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. Smart PLS was used for measurement model testing and structural model testing. The results showed factors such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and social influence have positive and significant influence on the perceived level of intention to use m-learning. Unexpectedly, the results also showed that factors such as perceived usefulness and perceived playfulness do not have a positive and significant influence on the perceived level of intention to use m-learning. The findings of the study provide information to educational institutions such as schools on factors that they should concentrate on when improving the use of m-learning. The study did not examine the m-learning intention among the school students from other grades, other schools as well as other districts. Therefore, it is suggested to consider school students with various geographical locations for future research.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Use of SMART Boards in the Teaching–Learning Process in Junior Secondary Classrooms</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Weerasinghe, M. D. B. P.</dc:creator>
<dc:description>Secondary and tertiary education in Sri Lanka is rapidly evolving, with increasing emphasis on integrating technology into classroom teaching–learning processes. Classrooms are becoming more learner-friendly through the use of innovative methods and technological tools. One such widely used technological tool in contemporary classrooms is the SMART Board. This study investigates the use of SMART Boards in junior secondary classrooms in Sri Lanka, with the aim of exploring how teachers use SMART Boards in the teaching–learning process and how SMART Boards contribute as a technological tool to enhance teaching and learning. The study adopted a qualitative research design using an analytical case study approach. A purposive sample was selected from a national school in the Sri Jayewardenepura Education Zone of the Western Province. The sample comprised 150 Grade 8 students from five parallel classrooms equipped with SMART Boards and seven teachers. Data were collected through classroom observations and interviews and were analysed thematically. The findings reveal that both teachers and students show a positive attitude towards the use of SMART Boards for enhancing the teaching–learning process. Although teachers demonstrate a willingness to innovate when provided with training, challenges arise due to limited facilities and infrastructural support provided by the school. The study further indicates that SMART Boards offer significant benefits to students’ learning by facilitating interactive and digitally enriched lessons. They enable students to actively participate in lessons and engage visually with learning materials. While teachers have the ability to integrate multimedia resources, the findings highlight limited creativity and a lack of diversity in instructional materials. Additionally, challenges such as technical issues, communication barriers, a shortage of trained teachers, and underutilization of creative digital resources were identified as factors affecting the effective use and educational value of SMART Boards.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Evolution of Career-Oriented Education and the Implementation Status of the 13-Year Guaranteed Education Programme (13YGEP): A Critical Review</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Kumari, H. A. N. P.</dc:creator>
<dc:description>In Sri Lanka, a considerable proportion of students do not meet the academic requirements necessary for further education following the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, resulting in early school dropouts. To address this issue, the Ministry of Education introduced Circular No. 37/2017, establishing the Thirteen-Year Guaranteed Education Programme (13YGEP). This initiative aims to retain students who are unable to transition to senior secondary education by providing an additional two years of schooling focused on skill development and career readiness. The programme seeks to enhance students’ employability and access to diverse professional opportunities both locally and internationally. Implemented in 2017, the vocational stream within the 13YGEP represents a significant expansion of the national curriculum. This study conducts a review of literature on the 13YGEP implementation in Sri Lankan government schools. The objectives include examining the historical evolution of career oriented over past curriculum reforms, synthesizing prior research, analyzing key findings, and identifying knowledge gaps requiring further exploration. A narrative literature review methodology is employed, drawing upon academic sources related to vocational education. A qualitative approach, incorporating thematic analysis, is utilized to examine these studies. The findings highlight the importance of integrating vocational education into school curricula and offer insights into its practical implementation. Additionally, the review underscores the need for further research into expert and stakeholder perspectives and the expansion of vocational subject streams. Identifying effective implementation strategies remains essential for bridging the gap between current research and future educational research.</dc:description>

<dc:description>This article conceptualizes the use of digital portfolios in higher education and the opportunities and challenges these bring in the era of GenAI (Generative Artificial Intelligence). It proposes the 4P framework: Purpose, Product, Process, and People, to enhance portfolio-based learning and assessment as learning through the integration of AI. The framework offers key pedagogic design considerations for meaningful engagement with portfolios that support reflective, digital, and critical skills development in creative and connected ways across disciplines, professional areas, and academic levels. Digital portfolios are positioned as increasingly relevant tools for defining, developing, and facilitating student-led learning that is purposeful, stimulating, and enriching, while responding to the opportunities and risks presented by AI. The 4Ps framework supports educators in designing flexible, inclusive, and authentic learning experiences that extend beyond the curriculum, and into lifelong and life-wide learning. It provides a conceptual foundation for integrating AI into portfolios in ways that promote agency and action, helping students feel connected to others and the world. Portfolios can serve as a bridge between reflection and action, with AI streamlining documentation processes to allow more time for deeper thinking. AI-enabled portfolios also offer opportunities to collectivize learning through the creation of public, shareable resources that contribute to wider societal conversations. The paper argues that AI is inescapably important in the development of frameworks for digital portfolios that are authentic in assessment and support regenerative approaches to learning and teaching. The 4Ps framework offers a practical and conceptual tool for navigating the evolving curriculum and assessment landscape in higher education.</dc:description>

<dc:title>A Systematic Review of Reviews on Micro-Learning</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Liyanage, N. G. L. S. J.</dc:creator>
<dc:description>Micro-Learning (ML) is an emerging pedagogical approach gaining popularity in education, as it enhances student motivation, engagement, and knowledge retention. As an accessible and flexible technique, it enables learners with varying commitments to the material to engage in short, focused sessions by breaking content into small, manageable segments. This study conducted a systematic review of reviews (an umbrella review), examining systematic reviews, literature reviews, and meta-analyses focusing on the effectiveness, pedagogical nature, and theoretical basis of ML. This systematic review of reviews on ML was based on PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) guidelines. Using online databases such as Google Scholar, Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, ERIC, and Semantic Scholar, 15 review articles published between 2010 and 2024 were retrieved. Findings highlight that ML is an effective technique across various educational contexts and can serve as a facilitative pedagogical technique in the teaching learning process. However, there is a notable lack of theoretical foundations in most ML studies and reviews. The findings of this review can create a roadmap to facilitate the adoption of ML. Moreover, the findings of this study could facilitate educators and instructional designers in rethinking their teaching techniques and methods, while providing future direction for researchers to engage in grounded theory research on ML.</dc:description>

<dc:description>This study explores the impact of emotional well-being on the academic success of first-generation university students, with a particular focus on their lived experiences and coping strategies in higher education. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with twelve purposively selected participants to capture the depth of their experiences. Findings reveal that first-generation students frequently encounter impostor syndrome, anxiety, self-doubt, financial strain, family expectations, social isolation, and a lack of belonging within academic settings. These challenges often hinder their emotional well-being, thereby affecting their academic success and overall university experience. However, the study also highlights resilience factors that contribute to student success, including social and institutional support, effective coping mechanisms, academic engagement, and mentorship opportunities. Such resources play a pivotal role in enhancing confidence, fostering a sense of belongingness, and improving academic outcomes. Furthermore, the research identifies institutional barriers that continue to limit access to adequate support for first-generation and financially disadvantaged students. By emphasising the interplay between emotional well-being and academic success, this study highlights the importance of comprehensive institutional interventions such as structured mentorship programmes, tailored counselling services, academic advising, and accessible research opportunities. The findings contribute to higher education policy and practice by offering insights into how universities can create inclusive environments that address the unique challenges of first-generation students while empowering them to thrive academically and emotionally.</dc:description>

<dc:title>Mindful Reading: A Moodle-Based Approach to Metacognitive Strategy Use in English for Specific Purposes</dc:title>
        <dc:creator>Karunarathne, Ashmini Kalika</dc:creator>
<dc:description>This study examined how Moodle-based continuous assessment tasks associate with undergraduates’ metacognitive engagement in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) reading in a first-year engineering course at a Sri Lankan public university. It used a single-case study design, treating a public university’s ESP reading module as the bounded case. Quantitative (CA1: N = 997; CA2: N = 973) and qualitative (n = 51) evidence were drawn from records of two compulsory continuous assessments and volunteer subset post-task reflections, respectively. The research questions focused on performance patterns across comprehension, summary writing, multiple-choice, and inference tasks; relationships among task components; comparative difficulty and ceiling effects across CA1 and CA2; reported strategy use and online assessment experience; and implications for task design. The objectives were to: (1) analyse student performance patterns across task types in CA1 and CA2; (2) examine relationships among assessment components; (3) evaluate difficulty, discrimination, and ceiling effects; (4) explore learner reflections on strategy use, confidence, and online assessment experience; and (5) propose assessment design implications for capturing metacognitive engagement. Quantitative analysis, using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, score distributions, and Moodle quiz statistics, examined difficulty and discrimination. Qualitative analysis, using thematic analysis, identified reported strategies, challenges, and suggestions. Results showed consistently high achievement (x̄ &gt; 97/100) and strong ceiling effects, limiting discrimination among learners. Summary writing functions as a distinct component, showing minimal association with recognition-based items and eliciting evidence of planning, monitoring, and evaluation in reflections. Learners valued summarising and note-taking, reported weaker planning and monitoring, and noted tensions between high scores and low confidence, alongside technical issues during Moodle delivery. Findings suggest rebalancing ESP reading assessment towards more demanding tasks, strengthening productive components, and incorporating brief reflection prompts to capture metacognitive engagement in large-cohort digital contexts.</dc:description>

<dc:description>Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment (MOODLE) is an open-source learning management system (LMS) which is highly adopted in higher education institutions worldwide. The objective of this scoping review was to explore the adoption of Moodle LMS in digital learning in higher education and identify the features of LMS that will fulfil the evolving teaching and learning needs in this digital age. Nine databases including SCOPUS were searched for eligible publications. Sixty-seven quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method research conducted on Moodle in higher education that were reported in English language were included in this review. Results showed that courses delivered via Moodle have achieved the intended learning objectives and student satisfaction. Drawbacks identified in using Moodle are not being effectively used to encourage interactions within the online learning environment; lack of opportunities provided for peer-learning; and lack of providing learning analytics for students. In order to address the evolving teaching and learning needs, the ideal LMS for higher education in this digital age should be user-friendly, interactive, engaging, inclusive, and provide learning analytics for teachers as well as students. Digital literacy skills of students and teachers, self-regulation skills in learning of students, and prior training on LMS to teachers facilitate effective implementation of digital learning via LMS.</dc:description>

        <dc:creator>Rathnayake, N. R. T. N. K.</dc:creator>
<dc:description>A paradigm shift in traditional educational methodologies is essential, as the ‘Generation Alpha’, known as ‘digital natives’, born after 2010, faces challenges such as short attention spans, lack of life skills, and mental fragility, despite its high digital literacy. The objectives of this research were to identify the psychosocial and digital behavioural patterns of the Generation Alpha, analyse the roles of Sri Lankan education stakeholders (teachers, parents, and administrators), investigate the attitudinal, skilled labour, and infrastructure challenges they face, and propose strategies to facilitate the learning needs of Generation Alpha students. A narrative literature review was conducted using international databases to collect primary data, which were synthesised through thematic analysis. Accordingly, teachers need to move away from traditional teaching and be trained to lead virtual classrooms and integrate technology into education, and it is essential to change their negative attitudes towards technology. Furthermore, school administration should adopt transformational leadership based on discussion and consensus instead of strict rules, and parents should support character development by carefully controlling their children’s excessive digital use. Innovative learning methodologies, such as blended learning and gamification, should be incorporated together with social-emotional learning models to engage students and foster critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Despite Sri Lanka&apos;s infrastructural limitations and economic constraints, by developing a flexible education roadmap that safeguards children&apos;s well-being, digital safety, and soft skills, Generation Alpha can be successfully prepared for the future world.</dc:description>
